It’s All About Bold, Dark Lips for Fall
A lot of girls this fall have been sporting fairly neutral eye and cheek makeup with a dramatic, dark lip. In fact just the other day at the Miu Miu fashion show in Paris, both Amanda Seyfried and Emma Stone were pictured wearing dark purple and dark red lips!
Many other celebrities have been seen wearing dramatic lipstick shades as well. Here are some of my current favorites..
I am a big fan of this trend because it’s a great, simple way to add a touch of sophistication (think old Hollywood glamour) to any outfit! Not sure where to start? For fairer skin tones I would suggest sticking with dark “berry” shades like cranberry, raspberry or even plum. For darker skin tones I would suggest deeper shades like burgundy. Ultimately, the choice of how dark you want your lips is up to you so feel free to try out different colors until you find the perfect one for you.

A couple of important things to remember when wearing a dark lip are:
- Keep the rest of your makeup neutral, your lips should be the star!
- Avoid black lipstick as this can lead to a very “goth” look (save this for Halloween!)
- Use chap stick or some type of lip primer if you have dry lips otherwise the color will look “cracked” on your lips
- Choose a shade that has a matte finish, NOT a glossy

I love Emma Stone’s color in picture 1. I think the Sephora color you picked is dead on to accomplish the look. I’ll have to give it a try!
I tend to shy away from dark and bold lipstick for myself. But I absolutely love the look. I actually have it on my to-do list to find the perfect bold lipstick for myself.
